Our Way self advocacy (formerly Wyre Forest Advocacy)
speaking up and breaking down barriers

Our Way is a charity set up and run by people who have learning disabilities. The aim of Our Way is to support people to join a self advocacy group to talk about issues important to them. We support and encourage people to challenge the barriers that prevent them from having the same opportunities in life that many of us take for granted.

Self Advocacy means:
Speaking up for yourself and having your say
Talking about problems like discrimination
Having more control over your life
Making big decisions

This is what self advocacy means to the people in the groups:-

• "Talking about problems and listening"
  
• "Taking Risks"
  
• "Becoming independent"
  
• "Being responsible"
  
• "Respecting and trusting each other"

Volunteers help Our Way self advocacy workers to support the groups. Our funding comes from a variety of trusts, local authorities, and private organisations.
